Dazzling By Design

about

This song actually comes from the same original song idea that became 'Your Sunrise', so if you notice any similarities, that's why. Back when I first wrote the melody for this song (and for years afterward) I called it 'Disclaimer'. It can lay credit to being the first thing I ever wrote as a musician! Weather was the first full song I wrote and recorded, but this song was the first time ever I actually tried writing a song - in 2008, before I played any instrument at all. I don't quite know how the melody came about (it sort of materialised over the years), but I initially just wrote the lyrics. The original ones were about girls and how they tried to break your heart, or some teen-angsty thing like that. Rewriting this song in 2011, I felt that it was no longer applicable, having had a steady relationship with a beautiful girl for over two years, and so I adjusted the lyrics. To my delight, they're now one of the typical guy-singing-about-girl-at-high-school songs so common for teen pop-punk bands, such as my favourite, Relient K. I'm thrilled to have joined those ranks.

By the way, "molto bella" means "very beautiful" in Italian.

lyrics

School on a summer's day
Chasing daydreams away
When I see the girl I'm dreaming of
She passes with just a wink
And catching my breath I think
Oh how I hate falling in love

Can someone please remind me
About where I belong
'Cause I thought I had a chance
But I think I got it wrong
She's smart and simply stunning
How does she find the time?
I guess I'll never know 'cause
She's dazzling by design

And though everyone knows that she's
Perfect as she can be
She doesn't seem to realise
God doesn't make mistakes
And one look is all it takes
Till you've been captured by her eyes

I tell her I like her dress
Hoping she notices
She's what I actually admire
And I thought my hopes weren't too high
But now I realise
I couldn't set them any higher

Can someone please remind me
About where I belong
'Cause I thought I had a chance
But I think I got it wrong
She's smart and simply stunning
How does she find the time?
I guess I'll never know 'cause
She's dazzling by design

Cinderella
Molto bella
With her perfect princess crown
League above me
Could you love me
Or am I just too far down
Picture perfect
Am I worth it
And how do you dazzle all the time
It's by design, oh

I know it's only just begun
But something tells me she's the one
And when she shines it's hard to see
'Cause she was made to dazzle me
