Owl City was again a big inspiration for this song. I was in love with On the Wing and Designer Skyline for their beautiful electronic textures, dreamy lyrics and fuzzy synth sounds. I wanted a song like this, but I wanted it to be on the more meaningful side as far as lyrics go; in my opinion, those two Owl City songs sit squarely at the poetic end of the scale. I generally prefer meaning over poetry in my lyrics, so that's what I aimed for. I originally wrote the opening synth melody (up to 0:19) and had it lying there for months, not knowing what else to do with it. The idea I finally stumbled upon was to write about Hayley's conversion (before we were dating) to Christianity, which did happen in July of 2009 (and yes, July in Australia is cold). I had been away in the UK at that time, hence the long-distance theme of the song. Other than that, the lyrics detail her step in faith into a new life, and the optimism that comes with life in Christ.
