about

Written days before my deadline for finishing the album, this song is a pop-punk/alternative tribute to Relient K, both their old and new styles. I invite you to look for the meaning of the lyrics, because I can assure you that I don't literally intend to chase the sun around the world. In this song, I played both electric guitar parts, the acoustic guitar, and all the piano, which was a first (I'd only ever played an acoustic guitar until very recently). The bass was also a real part recorded by my high school friend Shane Tyler, bassist of Oak Tree Suite. In short, it's probably the most realistic song I've ever done, and it was a heap of fun to really get in there and play most of my instruments myself like Relient K would do.

lyrics

Come home late and open the latch
To the balcony door and you might catch me
Catching a glimpse of the sky as the sun goes down

I know it gets dark by eight o' clock
But I always wondered why the daylight stops
It seems like the nights are longer in this town

And I don't believe that the sun has to set
So I'm going to chase it round the world tonight
And if I'm not back by the morning you'll know I was right

'Cause I've lived in this darkness for far too long
And I'm all too familiar with how things change
But I pray that you are one thing that stays the same
Through all of this

A plane ticket bound for the west should do
And my favourite picture of me and you
To keep you in my heart when I'm away

So off I'll fly with my mind on one girl
Charting a course for the end of the world
Hoping to find a way to chase the day

'Cause I don't believe that the sun has to set
So I'm going to chase it round the world tonight
And if I'm not back by the morning you'll know I was right

'Cause I've lived in this darkness for far too long
And I'm all too familiar with how things change
But I pray that you are one thing that stays the same
Through all of this

My whole life, the light I chased
Never seemed to be in the same place
And if the sunset disappears
At least I'll end up here with you

But still I don't believe that the sun has to set
So I'm going to chase it round the world tonight
And if I'm not back by the morning you'll know I was right

'Cause I've lived in this darkness for far too long
And I'm all too familiar with how things change
But I pray that you are one thing that stays the same
Through all of this
