This song was written as a sequel to "For You". I am most definitely a Christian and Jesus Christ is everything to me. However, I don't consider Summertime's End to be a Christian band; to me, that seems to file me in a category that most people prefer not to listen to. I feel that whilst some Christians who make music do so mainly for a Christian audience, I do not want my message, and that of Christ, to be considered only for a certain audience. The Gospel was commanded to be preached to every creature, and so I will never limit myself to singing for a Christian audience unless God so decides. This song, then, is about my struggles, my realisation of my purpose, and my encouragement to others, both Christian and non-Christian. I also wrote with many references to Scripture: Romans 7:24, Hebrews 2:10, 1 Corinthians 6:12, Titus 2:13, Matt. 5:14-16, Phillipians 1:21, and the central verse that inspired the song, Acts 26:18.
lyrics
The morning arrives and I'm waking alone
And I'm looking around at the life I have known
All the darkness and ice that once kept us apart
And the empty despair that corroded my heart
My freedom was bought by Your death on the cross
But that liberty came at a terrible cost
Yet that was Your purpose, to call me back home
And I realise now You have left me my own
To turn them from darkness to light
That's why you have your life
So don't think you're losing the fight
Leave your old life and live for the light
And all things are lawful, I know this is true
But the life that I live is to glorify You
So they won't have power to take hold of me
And under your grace, Lord, I know I'm set free
I'll fight off the weakness that poisons my flesh
I'll wrest back control from this body of death
And the light that is in me will shine like the sun
As I serve the captain of my salvation
To turn them from darkness to light
That's why you have your life
So don't think you're losing the fight
Leave your old life and live for the light
And as you turn the page
Watch your whole life change
Feel the love that changed your life
Know now to truly live is Christ
Let your broken spirit glow so bright
With His light
To turn them from darkness to light
To love them with all of your might
To lean on that hope through the night
Leave your old life and live for the light
Jesse Burns and his band LoveIsElectric (aka Seasons In Oregon) is my musical mentor. If you like my music, or Owl City's, you'll love his! (He's the one who awesomely remixed Dazzling By Design.) Summertime's End
I love Oak Tree Suite's music! The guys and I are great friends and I even went to school with Shane, my session bassist on Dazzling By Design & The Sunset Conspiracy. I highly recommend their stuff! Summertime's End
Ben of 'Death and a Cure' is not only from Perth like me, but he's the only artist I've ever watched playing and felt a need to buy his CD. Seriously. He's so good. You can't not listen. Summertime's End
