Weather was the first song I ever wrote, and the real beginning of Summertime's End. To make a long story short: girl meets boy. Girl falls for boy. Boy doesn't fall for girl. Girl moves on. Boy falls for girl. Boy gets upset at girl and treats her wrongly. Girl moves away. Boy writes Weather. And that's how I got it. In 2008 (the year, not the song), this song was completely acoustic guitar and keyboard recorded on a camera microphone. Now, it's got all sorts of instrumentation, but the lyrics and melody are just the same as they were back then. And a fun fact: part of the reason I go by Summertime's End is that this girl's surname translates as 'summer' in English. Fitting, huh?
lyrics
Don’t want to look out the window today
‘Cause I know what I’m going to see
The rain is falling, the wind is calling
And I feel it blowing inside me
I shut the window, I close the door
But here it’s still so very cold
I’ve tried so hard to forget, not to hold on to regret
But why’s regret so nice to hold
Things started changing, outside it started raining
And I’m sorry I did wrong
(Rain falls, the past calls, the things I did wrong)
I know that I hurt you, didn’t mean to make it worse for you
But lift your eyes and move on
(Gotta let go ‘cause I know it’s time to move on)
So when it rains, look through the clouds and see
The sun still shining, despite the weather
The same sun that shone on you and me
On all those days we spent together
So don’t think we’re a bad memory
Though today it’s colder than ever
And just remember who we used to be
The sun will shine on us forever
I pick up the photo album, turn the pages
And I try to find where it went wrong
Summer sky and memories, just loving your company
Serenades with all our favourite songs
But then things start changing, life started rearranging
Where did the happy ending go?
Fights only left us bruised, had we just been confused?
For the first time, I didn’t know
When it rains look through
Was it me or you?
Though you’re far you’ll see
You’re still close to me
Jesse Burns and his band LoveIsElectric (aka Seasons In Oregon) is my musical mentor. If you like my music, or Owl City's, you'll love his! (He's the one who awesomely remixed Dazzling By Design.) Summertime's End
I love Oak Tree Suite's music! The guys and I are great friends and I even went to school with Shane, my session bassist on Dazzling By Design & The Sunset Conspiracy. I highly recommend their stuff! Summertime's End
Ben of 'Death and a Cure' is not only from Perth like me, but he's the only artist I've ever watched playing and felt a need to buy his CD. Seriously. He's so good. You can't not listen. Summertime's End
